  • Elprint (Norway), a supplier of printed circuit boards (PCB), has established a sales presence in Bavaria. Elprint set up the sister company to provide micro and small batches of PCB’s, at attractive prices to its customers.
  • Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD) (USA), which is engaged in the development, manufacture and sale of a range of medical supplies, is to construct an administrative building at its existing site in Heidelberg. The building and its 90 offices will be completed in summer 2010, with further construction and renovation work at the site to follow.

  • Carnicas Serrano (Spain), a company which specializes in meat products such as Serrano ham and chorizo, has opened a subsidiary in Düsseldorf. About 20% of the company’s total revenue now come from foreign markets.
  • Telecommunications equipment maker ZTE (China) plans to jointly open a research and development lab with Vodafone in the test and innovation center operated by Vodafone Germany in Düsseldorf. The lab will become a technology platform where ZTE serves major telecom operators in Europe.
  • Domo CaproLeuna, a German manufacturer of chemicals and polymers belonging to the Domo Group’s (Belgium) Domo Chemicals, has invested 20m Euro to boost capacity at is caprolactam and nylon plant in Leuna by 10%. The company also established a 30m Euro storage facility at the site.
  • Telecity, a provider of highly connected data centers and part of the Telecity Group plc (TelecityRedbus) (UK) is to add a 4,000 sq m data center to its existing centers in Frankfurt. The 6MW facility will meet growing customer demand as Frankfurt becomes increasingly important as a European and German hub for internet and network intensive business requirements.

  • WL Gore & Associates (USA), a manufacturer of fluoropolymer products, plans to build a new plant in Germany.
  • Unger Steel (Austria), a steel construction company, is to open an office in Düsseldorf. The company wishes to expand its range of services in western Europe.
  • Sun Chemical, the world’s largest producer of inks and part of the DIC Corporation (Dainippon Ink and Chemicals) (Japan), has opened a 4m Euro manufacturing plant in Frankfurt. The state-of-the-art plant utilizes advanced technology to create high-quality sheetfed packaging inks.
  • The international fashion chain Tally Weijl (Switzerland) is to open a 450 sq m store in Kiel.
  • Showa Shell Solar, a subsidiary of Showa Shell Sekiyu (Japan), is set to open two overseas offices in April 2010 along with its rebranding as Solar Frontier. One of the offices will be located in Munich, the other one in northern California. Sales and deliveries of solar panels to customers worldwide are meant to be facilitated by the company’s network expansion.
  • Bucher Industries (Switzerland) is to close its Langendorf plant at the end of 2010. The company will move the production of pumps from its Bucher Hydraulics division from Sweden to Germany (Klettgau). Half of the 30 jobs being lost in Sweden will be transferred as well.
